Search options

Look up information using the SmartBox, and Yandex Browser will show you helpful suggestions to make you search easier. Use image search, or page search. Save time by searching with Neuro, a neural network that analyzes relevant websites and provides a comprehensive response to your query based on those sources.

SmartBox

The SmartBox is the main Yandex Browser element for entering URLs and searching for information. The Yandex search engine is normally used to search for answers to your query. You can change your search engine if you want to. You can't disable or remove the SmartBox.

To find the answer to your question or to visit a specific website:

1. Enter a search query, address, or name of a website in the SmartBox.
2. Press Enter.

To open the home page of a site by clicking its domain in the SmartBox:

1. Нажмите  → Настройки → Интерфейс.

2. In the SmartBox section, enable the options Use "domain > title" format for page addresses and Open home page of site when clicking the domain in SmartBox.

Search suggestions

Search suggestions are popular searches that start with the same characters as your query.

The suggestions list appears beneath the search bar and changes as you enter new letters in the search bar. When you see a suggestion that matches your query, you can select it by using the mouse or the Up or Down keys. To go to the search results, press Enter.

You can make your query more specific by adding text to the selected suggestion.

Yandex Browser provides answers to common questions in the search suggestion list. For example, you can find out the depth of Lake Baikal or the height of Mt. Everest without going to the search results. You can also enter a phone number that you got a call from into the SmartBox. If this number has been used for advertising purposes and there has been enough online feedback about this number, you will see a warning in the suggestions.

If you make a typo in the site address, Yandex Browser may offer corrections. To do this:

1. Нажмите  → Настройки → Общие настройки.

2. In the Search section, disable Offer corrections for typos in site addresses.

If you don't want to see suggestions in Yandex Browser, disable them:

1. Нажмите  → Настройки → Общие настройки.

2. Under Search, deselect Show suggestions when entering addresses and queries.

Neuro

Neuro is a Yandex service that combines the capabilities of a search engine and a generative neural network. In real time, Neuro finds several sources most relevant to your question, analyzes them, compiles the information into a comprehensive answer, and adds links to the referenced sources. To launch Neuro:

1. In the SmartBox, click the icon.

2. Ask a question in plain text form or attach an image:

   • Describe your question or problem. The more information you provide, the more relevant the answer will be. For example, instead of asking "Which plants can survive in the dark?" ask "Which plants can survive indoors in a dark room and don't need daily watering?"

   • To ask a question about an image, click , attach the image, and specify your question in text form. For example, you can upload a photo of a bird you saw at a park and ask what it eats.

3. The neural network will start analyzing websites and prepare an answer in a separate tab.

Neuro page elements

— View your query history for previous days.

— Edit a previously asked question.

— Ask a new question.

— View the sites that the neural network referenced as sources.

— Enter the query in Yandex Search if you want to do your own research.

— Rate the neural network's answer.

— Clarify the question.

— Go to Neuro Help.

To end your conversation with the neural network, close the tab.

Image search

You can search for images similar to yours or those found on the internet. Image search uses Yandex computer vision algorithms. The search results will show exact copies of your image and similar images. For example, similar images may be photos of kittens of the same breed.

Keyboard shortcuts for page search

Find on page

To search a page, use one of the following methods:

• Press Ctrl + F (in Windows and Linux) or ⌘ + F (in macOS);

• Click  → Advanced → Find.

When you try to search for a word on a webpage, Yandex Browser by default matches all grammatical forms of that word. For example, if you enter "teach" into the search bar, Yandex Browser will also show words such as "teaching", "teacher", and so on.

If you want to find specific grammar forms of a word without any related forms, select the Exact match option in the search window.

Copy or share the page URL

Left-click the SmartBox to bring up the Copy and Share buttons:

• To copy a URL to your clipboard, click Copy.
• To share a link with your friends, click Share and choose a social network or email address.

Disable the Copy and Share buttons

1. Нажмите  → Настройки → Интерфейс.

2. In the SmartBox section, disable the option Show Copy and Share buttons.
