# Protect: import passwords


You can import passwords to [Yandex Browser](https://browser.yandex.com/) from other browsers and password managers. You can also import passwords [using a file](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-export.md) from one Yandex Browser to another browser, For example, when reinstalling the operating system or changing the device.

## Import passwords from the browser {#browsers}

Available browsers:

  1. Click **![](../_image/settings-icon.svg)**&nbsp;→ **Passwords, cards, data**.

  1. If you have already [created](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) a master password, enter it to access your vault.

  1. Under **Passwords**, click **Import passwords**.
  1. In the **Select import source** section, select the browser from which you want to import passwords.

  After importing the passwords, Yandex Browser will tell you how many passwords were added.

  Passwords are [encrypted](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-management.md) with a key generated by Yandex Browser. For better security, create a [master password](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) and a [backup encryption key](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-management.md#restore-key).


- Auto


  During installation, Yandex Browser offers to import passwords and other data from your default browser. You can select a different browser installed on your computer or refuse to import passwords.

## Import passwords from a file {#programs}

1. Export the passwords from the program to a file.

    - If you use a password manager, follow the instructions for [1Password](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-export-from-other-managers.md#onepassword), [LastPass](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-export-from-other-managers.md#lastpass), or [Kaspersky Password Manager](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-export-from-other-managers.md#kaspersky).
    - If you want to export passwords from Yandex Browser, go to [Export passwords](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-export.md).

1. Open Yandex Browser.
1. Click **![](../_image/settings-icon.svg)**&nbsp;→ **Passwords, cards, data**.

1. If you have already [created](https://browser.yandex.com.tr/help/en/security/passwords-management.md#master-password) a master password, enter it to access your vault.

1. Click **![](../_image//bookmark-menu-icon.png)**&nbsp;→ **Export passwords** in the upper-right corner of the **Passwords** section.
1. In the **Select import source** section, select the program from which you want to import passwords.

    - **1Password (*.pif)**
    - **1Password (*.csv)**
    - **Lastpass (*.csv)**
    - **Kaspersky Password Manager (*.txt)**
    - **Yandex Browser (*.zip)**: You will have to enter the password you set when exporting passwords.
    - **Yandex Browser (*.csv)**

1. Enter the password file and click **Open**.

If the password manager and file contain the same sites, the password that was changed last will be saved during import.

After importing the passwords, Yandex Browser will tell you how many passwords were added.
